Mercury Retrograde, what is it?

Hi đź‘‹ I hope you all are well. Recently a friend was asking me about what is Mercury Retrograde and what to expect from it? Well, I made this personal video for this friend, then thought well, why not share with everyone else, too. This information will be updated again in the near future for the next rounds of Mercury Retrograde… It’s not all bad, really! It’s just a matter of perspective.

Enjoy viewing the video as its presented in ASL only, but information from the video is written basically in cliff notes, just scroll down below. Enjoy!

Beth signs in ASL about Mercury Retrograde and tidbits about it!

Not a transcript of video, but information signed is similar to what is written below…

What is “Mercury Retrograde”? Three times a year, the planet Mercury appears to travel backward across the sky. We refer to these periods as times when Mercury is in apparent retrograde motion, or simply ”Mercury Retrograde.”

Scientifically, Mercury retrograde is an optical illusion which means it looks as if the planet is moving backwards from our view here on earth.

Astrologically, what happens when Mercury is in retrograde and how does it affect us? Many astrology advocates believe that the retrograde motion triggers a cycle of misfortune, but what does it really mean? Some astrologers believe that during this perceived backwards motion, technology and communication could get disrupted, putting a damper on anyone’s mood. However, Mercury is also known by some astrologers as the planet to rule expression and communication.

When will Mercury be in retrograde in 2022? Mercury already has and will go into retrograde three times in 2022. They are as follows:

January 2022 Mercury retrograde – 14th January in Aquarius and 3rd February in Pisces

May 2022 Mercury retrograde – 10th May in Gemini and 2nd June in Gemini

September 2022 Mercury retrograde – 9th September in Libra and 2nd October in Libra

Some astrological researchers have closely analyzed what could happen during this three-week period. Some astrologers believe it can lead to…

  • Fallings out with friends
  • Experiencing misunderstandings
  • Travel, logic and communication getting disrupted
  • Emails getting lost
  • Flights being delayed
  • Other misfortune
  • Brain fog
  • Anxiety
  • Confusions around work projects
  • Headaches
  • Miscommunication

How can you navigate Mercury retrograde? From an astrological perspective, Mercury is not quite as doom and gloom as we have been led to believe. I would say Astrology is fun, it shows you possibilities, and thanks to the internet, it is more popular than ever. However, this may mean there are a lot of astrologers who perhaps haven’t studied for very long, scaring people unnecessarily. Like, if you have a baby during the retrograde, that’s totally fine. I was born during Mercury retrograde!

So, if it’s not all misbehaving computers and broken vehicles, what else is there? Mercury retrograde is a great time to go back. Go back and revisit old projects, old acquaintances and colleagues. As humans we like to forge ahead, but Mercury retrograde is the perfect opportunity to stop and reassess.” In short, go back to redo or refreshen whatever you were doing with a different perspective or simply more knowledge and understanding before proceeding again.

With that said, it doesn’t hurt to exercise some caution – like double-checking your keys and wallet when you leave the house, and ensuring all your work is backed up. Make sure you are extra vigilant during Mercury retrograde, and it might not be as bad as you think. However in my own personal opinion, just use the time to relax, rejuvenate, reflect, redo if needed with better understanding of yourself and/or the situation.

Happy Vibes!
Yours truly, Beth
